Once upon a time I thought I was supposed to be a writer

I firstly want to thank you for taking the time to visit my website – it really means a lot to me!

When I was a young man, I spent so much of my time with my nose and imagination buried in books. From the young adult novels to classics to contemporary fiction, I lived a rich inner life which led me to the conclusion that I should try and write something. And I did (not that anyone will get the chance to read it!). Life did what life does and I found less time and desire to write – Teams and emails will do that.

The Pandemic occurred. What began as a cute date night idea of pouring paint has turned into everything you see here. Thank you to my wife! The depth of all those metaphors and smilies have transformed into the work I create. What I thought would be the next great novel turned out to be so many collages of color, found materials, and the deepest corners of my subconscious unfiltered by the structure of sentences and grammar.

Connecting with the process

I like to start with one item or color or piece of fabric while trying to stay in that liminal space between firm direction and intuition. When I am at my best I let each element build off the one before until the piece reaches a place of completion. I also like to incorporate lyrics from old Negro Spirituals. Something old and something new.

My pieces can be described as mixed media modern expressionist. My work invites viewers to engage with the movement of the colors and the interplay between the materials to create an emotional experience. That feeling could be warmth, intrigue, or maybe introspection. I would love to hear what you think of my work so feel free to reach out with your feelings!
